Brand new kids class
We finally got around to creating a dedicated kids class. I went off and bought 10 shinai and 10 bokken now all we needed was kids. March the 6th saw our first class. We had 5 kids turn up and it was great to see the future of Cork Budokai there in the making. Clare worked very hard to come up with a good program and we are all set to make this class a success.
IIGT 2009
February saw Cork Budokai represented well at the Irish International Goodwill Taikai. Cork 1 Made it to the quarter finals but couldn't make it to the Semi's like last year. The competition was much harder. Cork 1 Consisted of Robin Deegan, Jason Clousten and Szilárd Szucs. Cork 1 were however noted for their nice kendo and spirit and recieved fighting spirit award for the team. Szilŕrd was our chosen representative to fight in the team Individuals and he also recieved fighting spirit in that tournament. Cork 2 (Vincent Long, Mark Jessop and Jason Buckley) put up a very good performance also, and came home with a lot of good experience. It was Jason Buckleys first tournament and he did great. Congrats also went to Szilárd who succesfully passed his San Dan grading! Well done.

30th June - The Day After
Well we made it to the beach and barely made it back. Keiko was postponed as only myself and Vince turned up with bogu!! We had complaints of hangover's sore wrists etc. I think they just couldnt wait for the fine food and booze. Without further haste (and after a quick trip to tesco's) the barbi was fired up and the session got underway with Hisano launching into the wine. Everyone had loads of bread, beer, burgers, sausages, ribs, and wine, (plus a few soft drinks for the drivers). And Nigel brought his own Fillet Steak!! Snob. Success! Plans are already formulating for our next outing... and we will use the red and blue ballons then!!

On the 29th of June Cork Budokai will meet at the lough community center at 14:00.
We will then go to a local beach for 2 hours keiko from 14:-00 to 16:00(ish). We will then have an optional swim followed by an optional barbq followed by mandatory wine and beer.

The Irish kendo Team return very happy from the recent European Kendo Championship in Helsinki.
