Little Samurai
Kendo for kids
Little Samurai is a program designed specifically for kids between the ages of 7 and 14.
We try to provide a fun, friendly and safe environment in which children can develop social and personal skills.
Kendo can help children with:
- 1. Basic motor function, balance, and co-ordination.
- 2. Listening and attentive skills.
- 3. Focus and concentration.
- 4. Teamwork and social interaction.
- 5. Self confidence.
- 6. Diligence in all undertaken tasks.
- 7. Respect for all people and things.
Lessons thought to Little Samurai prepares them for entry into Kendo as a martial art.
We try to help children become self reflective and thoughtful.
We do not teach Little Samurai how to fight only how to act, think and behave.
We will help them by providing positive feedback on area's they are good at and not criticising area's they are not.
Teamwork and integration plays a large role in the development of the Little Samurai.
We also teach aspects of social interaction such as stranger danger etc. I.e. What does a Stranger look like? What should I do if I am approached?
We encourage parents to stay and watch, but be mindful and respectful of the environment and dojo - I.e. Please whisper, turn off mobile phones and do not walk on the floor with shoes etc. This will help the children to settle into the class if the parents can lead by example.
Little Samurai class times are 18:00-19:15 on friday evenings at the front hall in the Lough Community Center.
The cost is €20 per month payable on the first friday on every month.
Your instructor will be Clare Deegan who has 8 years experience teaching children. Please contact her directly if you have any queries
