A quick well done to all from Cork and Dublin who travelled to Mumeishi’s 3’s 2009. Ye did great and showed excellent kendo.
Its absolutely no surprise that Dublin A and Cork A both went out to the finalists. A special well done to Dublin A who got to the last 32 and to Cork A who got to the final 16 (out of 84 teams).
And a special mention to Cork B who went up to face the British Army

Cork were very happy to host a seminar with Levi Sensei, a student of our National Coach Yanai Sensei.
The weekend was a great success with over 30 people over the three days. Friday night was a short session as there were flight delays but we were shown the importance of ai-men and keeping center. Saturday and Sunday saw a varied and fully packed few days of teaching and corrections. A lot of time was spent correcting kirikaeshi, then we moved forward to correct cutting and correct use of seme, footwork and control of the centre and finally coming to the very simple yet difficult seme men waza.
The use of seme was a key point over this weekend, both to startle your opponent and overwhelm them to forcing them to strike a target you want them to strike.
It was an eye opening seminar and we thank you for it.
Special thanks again goes to Martin and Kathryn for showing support from Dublin Kendo Kobukai.
Looking forward to the next session.

Szilárd returns home from the inaugural Dublin International open a champ.
Due to a string of corresponding issues and commitments (like Eamonn’s missus going into labor) Cork was only represented by one individual. This meant we did not have a Cork team, or Cork Kyu grades or Cork ladies competing. All our hopes lay on Szilárd’s shoulders
Despite that Szilárd put on a great performance and reached the finals to claim second place to the over all winner Gilles Delahaie from France. This put Szilárd top of the Irish kendoka at the recent taikai and Cork budokai and UCC are very proud of him. Well done.

We now have 10 kiddies in our class and 6 in bogu. This is a pretty good achievement for a little over 7 months.
We have a few new
idea’s in the pipeline that will hopefully see our kids section grow.
Big kudo’s to the teachers Clare and Vince and all the helpers!

Kendo~We started drinking at 5am and finished at 5pm. We began the seminar at 6pm, and suffered.
Thursday evening we practiced kirikaeshi followed by kihon and gigeiko.
Mori Sensei had us practice big men followed by big kote men, he emphases the importance of motodaichi’s distance, timing and control.
Mori sensei told us we needed to swing tall and big and not swing too far back. Doing this will change our grip (weaken it). We also had to keep good posture, proper footwork and strong kiai.
We had gigeiko with sensei. Read the rest of this entry »
